News of the week - The Dragonfly stage
A couple of days ago, I was scrolling through Instagram and came across videos of Ki/Ki playing back-to-back with HAAi on an incredible stage I had never seen before, which I had to share. This stage, known as the Dragonfly, is the latest addition to the Glastonbury Festival. For years, one of Glastonbury’s most hedonistic fields has been dominated by Arcadia – the sculptural art and dance collective famous for their 50-tonne, mechanical, fire-breathing spider.
Arcadia explained to Wallpaper*, "It began when we found some Royal Navy helicopter fuselages. As they started being unloaded, they began to resemble a dragonfly in the sky." Thus, the mechanical dragonfly, a Falklands helicopter turned dance stage, was born.
Ki/Ki and HAAi weren't the only ones performing there. DJs like Shygirl, Fatboy Slim, and Amelie Lens also spun tunes throughout the weekend.
Glastonbury hosts world-class electronic music. The problem is getting to see it. - Resident Advisor
Gabriel Szatan, an editor at Resident Advisor, penned an intriguing opinion piece in response to massive stages on Glastonbury like the Dragonfly where Ki/Ki performed.“After another year of overcrowding, the festival is clearly struggling to keep pace with the demand for dance culture. Time for a rethink, argues RA editor Gabriel Szatan.”
